Bethel Church of the Brethren in Mayland was founded in 1896 as a meeting house and preaching point of the Linville Creek Church of the Brethren. We continued as a mission of that church until we were organized as part of the Unity Congregation in 1912. We continued in fellowship with other churches until we were organized independently in 1976. You can read more of our interesting history by clicking here.
We feel like we have inherited great gifts from our fore-parents in the faith. For 125 years, Bethel has been a regular part of the Mayland and Broadway community—faithfully serving God and neighbor. We are proud of our past, but we also feel that we are prepared for our future! We want to make good on the inheritance that we have received. We are a church that is alive and passionate about serving our generation. We are experiencing a renewed vision, and we pray that we will stay relevant to the needs of the community around us, as we try to faithfully continue the work of Jesus.
We are part of the Church of the Brethren, and proud of our godly heritage. We are in mission with the greater church, and through our connection with our brothers and sisters in Christ, we are obeying the Great Commission of Jesus Christ and trying to humbly follow Jesus’ Great Commandment to love God and others.
We are also part of the Shenandoah District Church of the Brethren, and enjoy the fellowship of Brethren around us in the Shenandoah Valley. Through these connections we find accountability, encouragement, and resources to faithfully continue the work of Jesus until He returns for his own. We are grateful that we are not alone in our mission, but we are connected with many others who share our passion and work alongside of us to see our vision realized.

We are a people from a variety of professions and backgrounds who share a common love for Jesus Christ.
