Tim was born in Abingdon, Virginia in 1961 as the second of three children, all boys. He remembers his father receiving Jesus Christ as his Savior when Tim was only ten and the positive impact that had on his family. Within the course of a year, Tim also received Christ as his Savior and made him the Lord of his life. Tim feels extremely blessed to have been raised by Christian parents who wanted their sons to be more influenced by the teachings of Jesus Christ and the Lord’s Church, rather than just society at large. Because of this, the entire family was very involved in church activities over Tim’s entire childhood and youth.
After finishing high school, Tim chose to attend West Virginia State College, where he graduated in 1983, becoming a certified public accountant in 1987 and, later, a registered investment advisor in 2001. Tim worked in these professions for a total of thirty-six years before becoming a licensed minister through the Church of the Brethren in 2019.
Tim received the Lord’s calling into ministry in January of 2013. Since then, Tim has served as an associate pastor of a Baptist Church, and then as a lay speaker, substitute preacher and interim pastor with the Church of the Brethren. It was in 2016 that Tim entered formal ministry training with the Christian Growth Institute of the Church of the Brethren, from which he is scheduled to graduate in October, 2023. Tim is set to complete the pastoral ordination process through the Shenandoah District Church of the Brethren, by the end of 2023.
Tim’s goal in ministry is to faithfully serve his Lord and Savior who called him to do just as Jesus commanded all his disciples in Matthew 28:18-19 to “go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” Tim preaches and teaches the truth that is in the Word of God, (the Holy Bible) by the living and loving example and teachings of Jesus as contained in the scriptures.
One of his favorite verses of scripture is 1 Thessalonians 5:11 which states: “Therefore encourage one another and build one another up …”, for he believes that there is already an “overabundance” of negativity, discouragement and condemnation existing in the world today, as inspired by Satan. But, Tim believes that Christ’s Church can overcome all of Satan’s negative worldly influences by being the positive voice and the positive influence in the community, by being an encourager in the ways of Christ. After all, God has transformed our lives through the gift of his Son, Jesus, and filled our hearts with an abundance of love and joy so that we might share Jesus, his gospel, his love and our joy among others. So, let us go forth together as His Church and be a positive influence in the community, daily ministering to all through encouraging actions and words by the examples and teachings of Jesus, our Savior and Lord.
